Pope Francis' Visit: Historical Figures

After briefly researching the Pope’s recent visit to the United States, I found the he mentioned Martin Luther King as a historical figure.  In his speech made at the White House, he stated, “To use a telling phrase of the Reverend Martin Luther King, we can say that we have defaulted on a promissory note and now is the time to honor it,” (Pope Francis).  I would definitely agree with the Pope’s decision to mention Martin Luther King.  This was a fitting historic figure to refer to, because he was stating some recent issues in the United States, such as racial issues (ex. Charleston).  If I were the Pope I would do the exact same as he did, with mentioning Martin Luther King.  I would also mention Aristotle.  He was one of the very first people to envision democracy and have an idea of it.  He just saw it as a way to allow citizens to take part in their government.  By mentioning Aristotle, I could compare democracy from then to now, and its evolution.
